Verre Industrie Joins the New Marseille Tramway

Verre Industrie has begun supplying the first glass units for the headlight lenses of the future Marseille tram system, built by the Spanish company CAF.

This unit consists of four 3D-bent, chemically strengthened glass units, as well as a flat, tempered glass unit.

The combination of bending and chemical strengthening has been a resounding success in the development of new headlight lenses for trams and soft mobility vehicles.

This is the result of several years of collaboration.

Thank you to Oxa, our Madrid-based partner, for their in-depth work on the Spanish rail market.

Investment: new chemical strengthening furnace

In order to replace old equipment, we have just acquired a new chemical strengthening oven with a maximum capacity of 700 x 450 mm.

More energy efficient and more reliable, it brings us more flexibility in the production of our chemically tempered or custom tempered glass.

It completes our large installation (2200 x 1300 mm) and thus allows us to process a wide variety of parts simultaneously.

Why choose glass over plastic?

“Glass is essential to many vital technologies, facilitates the transition to a more sustainable world and beautifies our lives” (UN 2022 – Year of Glass).

It is a mineral product, environmentally friendly and infinitely recyclable.

It does not yellow or warp.

Its thermal, scratch and fire resistance properties are far superior to those of plastic.

Its luxurious and noble character is inspiring for both industrial products and works of art.
